Most of our visitors find us online. So we wanted to give you all the information you would need when you're planning your first (and hopefully not last!) in-person visit on a Sunday morning. Let's take it from the top.
Times and Places
At 10:00, we have our Sunday School hour for adults and children. Sunday School is in the Education Building. The easiest way to get into the Education Building is to locate the large front yard on Holman Street and follow the sidewalks to the door behind the Magnolia tree. See the map below. Adult Sunday School is in the Parish Hall, the room to the right when you go in the front door. The nursery is in the Education Building as well. We have a class for children ages 5-9 and a class for children ages 10-14.
Our worship service is at 11:00 in the sanctuary. There will also be signs in the yard directing you as to where to go.
Getting There
First Lutheran is about a mile south of downtown, near 59, 288 and 45. Our address is 1311 Holman, and we take up the entire block where Holman, Austin, Francis and Caroline meet. If you're in the city and take public transportation, there is a 009 bus stop across the street and the train stops 3 blocks from us on Main Street at the HCC/Ensemble stop.
Parking
We have two parking lots. One is at the corner of Holman and Austin, and the other is at the corner of Caroline and Francis. If they are full (and they probably will be by 11:00 am), street parking is FREE on Sundays (not Saturdays) and after 6:00pm every day. Many of our members park on the street and we have two Visitor Parking spots just for you in our Holman/Austin lot.
Worship
If you are coming for worship, you will be welcomed by an usher. They will offer you a bulletin to help you follow the worship service. If you have never used a hymnal, they'll be happy to give you a quick lesson as it can be a little confusing at first! You are welcome to receive the Lord's Supper (which we have every Sunday) if you have been baptized and believe that Christ is present in the bread and wine. You can always come forward for a blessing. Our service almost always lasts a little over an hour. Learn more about our worship service here.
After Worship
You are free to stay after worship to get to know us better. Unless another event is planned, we have refreshments in the Parish Hall. Our coffee beans are ground fresh every Sunday morning!
Keep in Touch
In your pew, there will be a Communication Card you can fill out. Place it in the offering plate and we will be happy to follow up with an email or phone call if you have any questions or want to learn more. You can also sign up for our monthly newsletter on the front page of this site. See you soon!
